New Search Capability

Posted by James on Friday, June 22, 2012
I've added a new search function to the site, which will search the manual documentation. Since github uses jekyll for their page hosting, all site content has to be static, which really limits the search capability. Some third-party services exist to get around this issue, but I decided to go a different direction and wrote a jekyll plugin (using ferret to index the text) to generate a searchable JSON index. JQuery is used on the client side to grab that index and find the results based on a fuzzy matching algorithm.

New Cobbler Home Page

Welcome to the new Cobbler home page! The goal of this redesign is to make the website much more accessible, with documentation that's easier to find than digging through the github wiki. Going forward, there will be a manual for each major release (starting now with 2.2.3). This will allow us to provide documentation for users on older versions while maintaining updated docs for new releases (and maybe even the devel branch, as new features are added).
